a small community gallery is now on par WITH larger counterparts …

The Waiheke Island Community Art Gallery is a very active gallery on an Island just a ferry ride away from Auckland, New Zealand.

With the help of funding from the Ministry of Culture & Heritage, the gallery has purchased a large touchscreen, and a Curio licence, and created their first (of many) interactives for visitors to engage with.

Director Linda Chambers is excited to be presenting technology in the gallery that brings it on par with other much larger institutions:

“The touchscreen enables the Gallery to showcase the breadth of its activities and collection that are not readily visible, using technology which is in use by major galleries and institutions world-wide”.

So easy to use, for everyone…

Linda informs us that visitors have been enjoying the user friendly and interactive technology, meeting the artists behind works and discovering more about each sculpture.

“Curio makes it so easy to make the interactives, and with excellent support available if you need it.” enthuses Bella Hessell, Gallery Assistant, who made the first interactives for the gallery and was surprised at how quick and easy it was. “Artists have appreciated the platform where their artworks are visible in a superior digital format."

And, some lovely local craftsmanship…

The screen itself is a 50” 4k screen and is housed in a custom made housing, made by local cabinet-makers Tree Essence who did a superb job in creating a very stylish, and visitor-proof, surround to present the table in. We were happy to help guide the design with tips from our hardware experts. Well done team!

There’s a bit more about in-gallery hardware options here.

We look forward to seeing new interactives being published, as exhibitions change and as other opportunities to showcase the collection arise. Its so great that a smaller gallery can be modern, and ever-changing, with this technology.

Visiting Waiheke, and the gallery, is highly recommended!
